Keyword Density Tracker – Why use a tool

Why use a keyword density tracker tool?

Using a Keyword density tracker tool makes managing your website faster and easier.  A keyword density tracker tool will quickly and easily calculate your keyword density saving you the tedium of reviewing pages and counting words.  In this article I am going to share how to calculate keyword density and the importance of keyword density in getting the search engines to drive traffic to your site.

What is keyword density?

Keyword density is simply the number of times that your keyword or keyword phrase appears on a website page.

The search engines have spiders that crawl the Internet looking at pages and these spiders have a formula that they use to try and determine if a page provides information about a specific topic.  And one of the things that they look for is how often the keyword or keyword phrase appears on the page.

Specifically they look for the number of times the keyword phrase appears as compared to the total number of words.  The keyword density is used as a factor to determine whether a webpage is relevant to a specific keyword phrase.

The density is important because this is one of the factors that the search engines look for when a page is being ranked.  Think about it this way.  If you select a keyword phrase such as shaving brushes and the words shaving brushes never appears on the page, is there really information about shaving brushes?  Does this mean that you should squeeze the keyword in as often as possible?

A keyword of keyword phrase can also appear too often.  This is referred to as Keyword Stuffing.

Have you ever read an article where the keyword appears in every paragraph?  Did it read well, was in informative?  Likely not.  There is an optimal amount of times that a keyword phrase should appear in an article that will lead to the best opportunity for good rankings by the search engines.  The length of the article also impacts it.

A good guideline to is to have the keyword appear 5 to 10 times for 400-900 word article.  Keeping in mind that this changes with each update performed by Google or Bing.

As a rule of thumb, many SEO experts consider the best keyword density to be 1 to 3 percent. The formula to calculate your keyword density on a web page for SEO purposes is:

Keyword density value  = (Nkr / Tkn) * 100

Where Nkr is how many times you repeated a specific keyword and Tkn the total words in the analyzed text.

This will result in a keyword density value. When calculating keyword density, do not count html tags and other embedded tags, which do not appear on the page once it is published.

It can be argued that it is pretty easy to count the number of words in the article and count the number of times the keyword appears.  So why use a tool?
